The publication date of this issue of The Southern Cross coincides with my sister’s birthday. She turns 70 this year and will probably do me grievous bodily harm for making this milestone public.

Why the ‘Prosperity Gospel’ thrives in Africa

On a cool Sunday afternoon at Nairobi’s Uhuru Park, thousands of worshippers have gathered for a well-publicised open-air evangelical service, or crusade, by a popular city preacher. Most of those present are youthful believers, dancing to heavy hip-hop music that fills the park from the colourfully decorated podium, where a gospel group is performing.

Debate need not be disloyal

Peta Barlow (“Failed loyalty”, June 17-23) conflates dissent and disloyalty. This equation is false. It seems to be a widely held view in our Church.
