BY CLIFFORD M YEARY In the first chapter of Mark, after Jesus was baptised by John, he was tempted for 40 days in the wilderness. Immediately afterwards, he launched his ministry with these words: “This is the time of fulfilment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the Gospel” (1:15).
