A place to discuss diversity
From Rosemary Gravenor, Durban
When talking to an eminently faithful Catholic recently, I discovered she subscribes to The Southern Cross but has no access to a computer. I was sharing some of the “discussions” that take place on The Southern Cross website (www.scross.co.za) and she was surprised to learn that we can comment on such items as the editorial, the regular writers’ columns, the Letter of the Week, and so on.
Our prayers for 2012
The resolution of the climate change conference in Durban will have satisfied few who have at heart the welfare of the planet and its people. The governments of the world have pronounced the myopic pursuit of revenue as an absolute priority.

Combining love of God and neighbour
BY LEN POTHIER
Think about this: our Lord condensed Christian living down to just two actions: love of God and love of neighbour, with the one flowing out of the other.
The change that changes everything
‘I take you, to love and to cherish, in sickness and in health, until death do us part…”
This may sound familiar to you, or maybe not. I can’t know when you were last blessed to attend a wedding ceremony. I had the opportunity recently when a friend of mine got married and I was invited to be a part of their special day.
Christmas is a time to keep traditions
Christmas time is family time. I think a lot of people will agree with this. Around this time you will always hear people say something like: “I don’t like going away for Christmas, it’s a time to be with my family. I always stay home for Christmas.”
Evangelism is paramount
From Frank Bompas, Johannesburg
Damian Mcleish has written letters to The Southern Cross recently complaining about the “seamless garment” position taken by US bishops on Catholic moral teaching since it appears to him to downplay the stand of the Church on abortion.
Christmas through new eyes
BY FRANCIS CORREIA
As a mother of three very small children my perspective on Christmas has changed fundamentally. Before I had babies I was annoyed by the early appearance of Christmas trees and decorations, the playing of hymns and the general hype in any shopping experience.

Christmas through new eyes
What happened to Limbo?
Ever since the 1940s I have been made to believe that unbaptised babies, who have not attained the power of reason (such as a very early spontaneous miscarriage), can never reach the Beatific Vision. In the last few years I am made to believe by the hierarchy that they indeed can attain the Beatific Vision. This is disturbing to me. Which one is the true teaching of the Mystical Body of Christ?
