Thanks for your prayers
Although I have been back at work about a month now, I haven’t managed to post anything until today. Being away on medical leave means that the work piles up and still greets you when you do return.
Thanks to all those who wrote with promises of prayer when I had my hip replacement operation. All went well and I continue to recover. I am now learning how to walk normally once again. The whole experience has been a time of patience, which continues.
During the first six weeks, which are the crucial weeks of the recovery, I had the space and time to read a lot. One of the books I read was Barbara Kingsolver’s Animal, Vegetable, Miracle in which she describes how her family lived on what they raised for a year–with very few items bought at a supermarket. They have a small farm in southwestern Virginia in the United States. She and her husband and elder daughter wrote the book together. It is filled with much to ponder about where our food comes from, how to be more in touch with the earth, interesting recipes, and food issues in reference to the future of the planet.
