Celebrating 100 years of the ANC

The announcement that the ANC plans to spend R400 million (and more) on its Centenary celebrations, some of it from public funds, was a shock. Yes, historic buildings should be renovated. But that still leaves millions for parties with lavish food and drink.

The ANC is so uncreative. Why not use the money to celebrate this 100th anniversary in ways that will last? For example, 100 ANC Scholarships for post-graduate study could be established, each named for an important South African.  Here are some examples: The Albertina Sisulu Public Health Scholarship, the Chris Hani Political Science Scholarship and the Ruth First Journalism Scholarship. I am sure that they can find 97 other names.

The ANC in each province can also be challenged to create 100 projects that will last.
