Recently the National Catholic Reporter announced that it is ending online comments to its articles because too many are vicious attacks on others who post comments.
This follows a similar decision of The Southern Cross last year (which has lately been relaxed again).
Reading the NCR posts, and sometimes adding my own voice, I have been astonished by the vitriolic attacks of the conservative wing of the Church. Yes, we can disagree but what justification is there for attacking people’s faith and human dignity in scandalous language? I sometimes met the same types of responses to my SC blog posts.
A very sad comment on some people in the Church.
