Talk by Nuns on Consecrated Life this Month
Srs Biddy Rose Tiernan and Shelagh Mary Waspe will deliver their presentation, titled “Sisters (Still) in Arms”, at an event hosted by We Are All Church SA at Rosebank church’s Harry Wilkinson Hall on Saturday, July 20 at 9:30.
Sr Tiernan, of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, has served in her congregation’s leadership several times.
Her professional background is in education, and she was the second director of the Catholic Institute of Education.
Sr Tiernan is also well-known for her social justice ministry.
Sr Waspe, a Holy Family Sister, has a background in the medical world. A veteran of the social justice ministry, she has served as vicar for Justice & Peace in Johannesburg archdiocese.
Between them, the two Sisters have over 100 years’ experience in the consecrated religious life.
Both are founding members of Sisters for Justice, a group that has met since the early 1980s.
The organisers ask for an RSVP by July 18. Entrance is free but a donation is welcome (suggested amount R50).
