Mgr Anthony Pascal Rebello to be ordained Bishop of Francistown in September
By SACBC – The Episcopal Ordination of Mgr Anthony Pascal Rebello, the Bishop-Elect of the Diocese of Francistown, will take place on the 4th September 2021 at Our Lady of the Desert Cathedral, Francistown, Botswana.
Mgr Rebello was appointed the Bishop of Francistown on July 5 to succeed the now Archbishop Frank Nubuasah of Gaborone who had left the See of Francistown vacant when he was appointed the Bishop of Gaborone on July 6, 2019.
In 2019 the Diocese of Francistown had just more than 26 000 Catholics which makes about 2.1% of the population of Botswana. Francistown was elevated to the jurisdiction (status) of diocese in October 2017 and it falls under the Province of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Pretoria.
Due to covid-19 restrictions in Botswana it not known yet how many people will be allowed to attend the episcopal ordination in September. Currently the gatherings in Botswana are restricted to 50 people.
