Ga-Rankuwa Churches Welcome The Southern Cross!

It was a day of double celebration for the Holy Cross, the Maria Mater Ecclesiae (MME) and the Christ the New Man parishes of Ga-Rankuwa, north-west Pretoria this past Sunday. The parishes were celebrating the fifty-two years of the presence of the Handmaids of Christ the Priest congregation of nuns at the Holy Cross Church. They were also celebrating the renewal of their connection with The Southern Cross magazine.

The parishes last received The Southern Cross as a newspaper and had never seen it in its new format as a magazine. “We are happy that we will be receiving The Southern Cross as the three Ga-Rankuwa parishes, and in its new format as a magazine,” said one parishioner from Holy Cross parish.

The magazine has published several articles on a priest revered and fondly remembered in all three parishes. Stigmatine priest Fr Michele D’Annucci CSS was a parish priest of all three parishes at various stages during his thirty-four years in South Africa. He was the founding priest of Christ the New Man parish.

The Southern Cross also published a feature article on the appointment of Bishop Robert Mphiwe as bishop of Rustenburg diocese as a front cover story for the February 2021 edition.

Bishop Mphiwe is from Ga-Rankuwa. He was a long-time parishioner of the Christ the New Man Church in the township.
