Far East Rand Deanery youth ministry hosts AGM, appoints new committee

New far east rand youth deanery executive

By Kati Dijane – Young people came in numbers to St Joseph parish in Actonville, Benoni, on  March 17 for the annual general meeting of the Far East Deanery. After almost three years of having two executive members assisted by an interim team, the deanery finally elected a committee.

The youth were graced by the presence of the dean, Fr Chaka Motanyane OP, parish priest of St Joseph, Fr John D’ Souza OCD, youth chaplain of the deanery, Fr Grace Basirika OSM, who is also the parish priest of St Anthony Pucci in Duduza and St Peregrine in Alra Park.

The event opened with morning Mass and the youth representing each parish, including Kristo iNkosi, St Anthony Pucci, St Paul (Tsakane), St Joseph, St Lewis (Payneville), Seven Holy Founders (Ratanda), Daveyton parishes (St Martin’s, St Nicholas, St Lambert and St Monica) and St Mother Teresa of Calcutta, presented the challenges and highlights they had experienced in their parishes over the past year.

Elections were held with the appointment of Siyabonga Beson, as the chairperson, Menzi Magagula as the vice-chairperson, Kopano Peta, as secretary-general, Tshepiso Pico, as vice-secretary, Komohelo Qozo, as the media officer, Martinet Mathunda, as the liturgy officer and Thabo Nyakale, as an additional member. Lunch was prepared by the Daughters of Saint Anne sodality.
