Most Holy Redeemer Mmakau Hosts Ground-Breaking Mountain Motorbiking Event
History was made on August 10 when the Most Holy Redeemer Church in Mmakau, North-West played host to a major mountain motorbiking race, the first of its kind held at a Catholic church in the Archdiocese of Pretoria.
The event was organised by Enduro Events, an events company that organises family, fans and spectator entertainment events. The mountain motorbike race was organised in conjunction with the De-Wildt Off Road Bikers Club, a club based in the nearby De-Wildt farming area adjacent to Mmakau. Over a hundred bikers and biking enthusiasts descended on the mission church to enjoy the day. Twenty biking clubs from across Gauteng and some from the North-West province were represented in the race.
The church’s Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) chairperson Mr N Mpye was on hand to welcome the guests. “We are happy that the bikers chose our church to act as a host for this historic event. This is the result of a partnership between the church and the De-Wildt Off Road Bikers Club, who use our facilities for their Saturday mornings biking on the mountain. The club is actively playing a role in being of assistance to the church in several ways, and is also nurturing a number of local youngsters to become professional bikers in future,” he said.
The Most Holy Redeemer Church is situated on the slopes of the De-Wildt Koppies (Nkopo Hills), which makes the church grounds an ideal venue to host such an event. The next event at the church is taking place on August 24. The parish is hosting a Fun Day for the North-West Deanery of the Archdiocese of Pretoria. Activities for the day include a Fun Run, Aerobics and a Braai. For more details please contact: Tsietsi – 072 443 3498.
