Salesian Workshop Induction of New Missionaries

By Fr Vaclav Klement- The Salesian AFM Vice-province missionary animation team with delegate Fr Odise Lazri recently hosted a two-day induction workshop for newly arrived missionaries.

10 participants from 8 countries (Zambia, Poland, Malawi, Nigeria, Philippines, Vietnam, Congo DR, Congo and Chad), over 8 sessions in two days were provided an invaluable opportunity to immerse themselves in getting to know their new province, culture, history and overall intercultural dynamics of daily life and mission.

The workshop, held at the Bosco Youth Centre, offered a diverse range of sessions, covering topics such as intercultural relationships, motivations for mission, and an introduction to the history and culture of South Africa, Lesotho, and eSwatini. Participants had the chance to connect with experienced Salesians and gain valuable insights into the challenges and rewards of missionary life.

One of the recently arrived missionaries shared: ‘The workshop was quite enriching and encouraging. It served as an eye opener to different aspects of the province.’ After this workshop, each new missionary continues a deeper knowledge about the local cultures, history and especially the study of the languages.

After these two days, the 7 practical trainees continued their specific workshop focused on Vocation animation with coordinator Fr Chris Rychcik,
