St Augustine’s Seminary Students Receive Holy Vestments
By Bokang Tsonamatsie, Pics by St Augustine Major Seminary – St Augustine Major Seminary commemorated a significant event on March 10, as first-year Philosophy students received their Holy vestments.
During his homily, Fr Dr Lebohang Lekena, the Rector of St Augustine Major Seminary in the Archdiocese of Maseru, Lesotho, elaborated on the significance of these Holy vestments. He strongly conveyed to the Seminarians that these garments are essential for the service of the Church and should not be viewed as mere fashion items. He underscored that the vestments they received are intended for Priests, and the accompanying prayer rituals signify chastity and humility. He highlighted the virtues associated with these vestments and encouraged everyone to grasp their importance.
“I urge you, Brothers, to strive for chastity and humility. This is not something you can achieve solely through your own efforts, but rather through God’s grace,” Fr Lekena stressed. In his concluding remarks, he reminded both the newly vested and those who had previously received Holy vestments to always reflect on the prayers said during their blessing and to consider the meaning these vestments hold for them.
The Holy Mass also included a celebration and welcome for first-year students who are not Seminarians, recognising them as ordinary students. The Seminarians who received Holy vestments hailed from the Archdiocese of Maseru, the Diocese of Leribe, the Diocese of Mohale’s Hoek, the Dioceses of Kroonstad and Aliwal North (South Africa), and the Servants of Christ the Priest from the Diocese of Mohale’s Hoek. Various Priests from different Parishes were also present at the celebration.
St Augustine Major Seminary is a higher education institution that provides Philosophy and Theology studies to all, including laypeople and individuals from other religious backgrounds. The seminary has reached a centennial milestone and is proud to have produced numerous Bishops in Lesotho, South Africa, and other regions of Africa.
