Archbishop Emeritus George Daniel at a Mercy Sisters centre in Winterveldt, Pretoria, with Mother Teresa during her tour of South Africa in November 1988. Following the visit, the Archbishop formally requested Mother Teresa to establish a Missionaries of Charity community in South Africa. The first group of sisters arrived in 1989, and their congregation remains active in Winterveldt today. Our September issue features Archbishop George Daniel of Archdiocese of Pretoria, who celebrates his 50th year as archbishop👼
