Around 200 people gathered at St Anthony of Padua parish in Evaton for a Hyams Cause Mass.
The sainthood cause for Danny and Domitilla Hyams, founders of the little Eden Home, is currently in the local or diocesan inquiry phase, where teams are interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence of their lives and virtues
The Mass was presided over by Fr Mareko Marciniak SVD, who also preached the homily on the saints and our call to salvation.
He reminded the congregation that the saints were ordinary people who opened their hearts to God, followed Jesus faithfully and allowed their lives to become witnesses of God’s love. Their example reminds us that holiness is possible for everyone when we trust God and live our faith sincerely.
The Mass was concelebrated by eight priests, with two deacons assisting.
“It was a beautiful celebration of faith, unity, prayer and remembrance, prayerful and well prepared. The faithful participated with great devotion and joy,” said Pearl Makelefane, secretary of the Vaal Deanery Hyams Cause Champions.
After Mass Fr Marciniak gave a presentation on Danny and Domitilla Hyams.
“The congregation listened attentively as he shared their story, their faith and their service to others. Many people were deeply touched and inspired by the life and witness of the Hyams. Their example reminds us of the importance of faith, love, compassion and selfless service, especially towards those who are poor, sick and in need,” Makelefane said.
Vaal Deanery Hyams Cause Champions, who organised this event, sold various items outside the church as part of their fundraising efforts.
“We express our sincere gratitude to Fr John Kennedy, SVD, our Spiritual Father; Fr Tshepo, the parish priest; Fr Mareko Fr Kifle, the dean; and all the priests, deacons and faithful from the 18 parishes of the Vaal deanery, especially the champions from the various parishes,” Makelefane said.”
“We thank everyone who contributed through their presence, prayers, service and generosity. May the life and witness of Danny and Domitilla Hyams continue to inspire us to live our faith with courage, love and compassion. Together, in faith and service, we continue the mission of Christ.”
