Motsepe Foundation Donates To Catholic Institutions In Pretoria
“A few days before his death, Jesus made his triumphant return to Jerusalem. He made his way into the city on the back of a meek and obedient donkey. I’d like you to think of me as the donkey, when I ultimately make my return to my father in heaven.”
This was the message delivered by Motsepe Foundation chairman Dr Patrice Motsepe this Monday as the foundation made donations to several Catholic bodies and other social development projects.
Held at the Odi Stadium Hall in Mabopane, north of Pretoria, the occasion marked the foundation’s resumption of its annual donation drive for the faith-based, education and social upliftment sectors in Pretoria following its annulment due to the covid-19 pandemic in 2019.
Amongst the catholic institutions who each received a donation of R 220 000 are St George Catholic Church in Attredgville, Holy Cross Church in Garankuwa, Most Holy Redeemer Mission in Mmakau Village, along with the mission’s Morekolodi Primary School and Tsogo High School, Dr Motsepe’s alma mater.
“This comes as a much-welcomed gesture from Dr Motsepe and the Motsepe Foundation. We were not expecting this, as most of the Catholic institutions had not even made an application for the funding or knew that the funding was back on track after covid. This is a demonstration of Dr Motsepe’s commitment to his faith and the Church. After all, charity starts at home,,” said a parishioner of the St George Church at the occasion.
A Catholic convert, Dr Motsepe and his six siblings attended primary school at a catholic boarding school in Aliwal North in the Eastern Cape. He completed his high High schooling at Tsogo High School in Mmakau Village, his hometown. He is a parishioner of the Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Rivonia, in Johannesburg.
