Solemnity of All Saints Reflection: Called to be Saints – Already, but not yet…
Franciscan Reflections From The Hermitage – Solemnity of All Saints – Called to be Saints – Already, but not yet… – Matthew 5:1-12
The synthesis of the Beatitudes from the Aramaic translation… Tuned to the Source are those who live by breathing Unity; their “I can!” is included in God’s.
Creation is holy, we are Holy, made saints already by the ‘Ruach’, the breath of God which carries the life force of all creation. This is Breath and Word in unison, bringing to fruition the Being of God’s pattern.
This is our calling to unity with God, bringing intention, breath, word, and action to fruition within the world as a Cosmic perpetual act of praise to God coming to that climax within the Eucharist: ‘Father, you are holy indeed, and all creation rightly gives you praise. All life, all holiness comes from you through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, by the working of the Holy Spirit.’
Yet we do not always live according to this pattern and so there is discordance, a great disturbance … we no longer hear the melody of creation and all around us there is a great groaning.
We are all on this journey of working with the purpose of God in the act of ongoing creation. For this to become the reality of the Kingdom of God, we look to overcome our pride and hubris, our often distorted and disordered love, the scapegoating of others, being judgemental, and condemning, with dismissive attitudes, and the anger and violence of our viper tongues that we mask and hide as righteous anger.
Each one of us has valuable gifts to share with the world. However, these gifts will not come to full fruition until we stop placing so much of our valuable energy on ‘the other’. Our mimetic and competitive self-serving desires to place full attention on others and their flaws and shortcomings while simultaneously refusing to see and acknowledge our own black-speckled hearts, our own disowned self-serving natures, our own disowned mean-spiritedness, and our own chaotic and disruptive energy.
Know Thyself fully. And then you must forgive yourselves. Then you can begin to heal and eventually Truly Love yourselves and your neighbour in that likeness.
In the likeness of the early apostolic church, we too are called to remember and honour those saints who are alive among us, people much closer and dearer to us, those who have been our inspiration on our own journeys.
These are the people whose love and sacrifice have touched us, upheld us, and inspired us. We know them and we remember them as God also knows our own first name and loves us.
And so we can say to our beloved dead, especially this weekend and through this month of November, “Until we meet again, remain in peace, blissful as faithful friends of God, and keep our love with you.
- Blessed are those in emotional turmoil; they shall be united inside by love.
- Healthy are those who have softened what is rigid within; they shall receive physical vigour and strength from the universe.
- Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for physical justice; they shall be surrounded by what is needed to sustain their bodies.
- Blessed are those who, from their inner wombs, birth mercy; they shall feel its warm arms embrace them.
- Aligned with the One are those whose lives radiate from a core of love; they shall see God everywhere.
- Blessed are those who plant peace each season; they shall be named the children of God.
- Blessings to those who are dislocated for the cause of justice; their new home is the province of the universe.
Renewal is yours when you are reproached and driven away by the clamour of illusion on all sides, for my sake …
Then, do everything to the utmost, including letting your false self disappear, for this is the secret of claiming your expanded home in the universe. All who are enraptured, saying inspired things – produce on the outside what the spirit has given them within.
