On June 4 the diocese of Klerksdorp under Bishop Victor Phalana will host a security cluster event, in conjunction with the diocesan Justice and Peace Commission, to remember police personnel that have died in the line of duty.
Throughout the years, the diocese of Klerksdorp has urged the faithful in parishes to pay tribute to the police officers who have been killed in the line of duty.
The Church wishes to use this day to show appreciation for all those who currently serve on the front lines of the battle against crime.
“We invited the security cluster delegation from SAPS, Correctional Services, Hawks, traffic department, Jaws and SANDF to attend the church service,” said Petrus Moshe, diocesan Justice and Peace coordinator.
The commemoration will be held on June 4 at 9am at the Cathedral of Christ the Redeemer, 5 Poppy Avenue, Adamayview in Klerksdorp.
“On this day, we will remember the sacrifices that our men and women in the security service have made and continue to make as they provide safety for all who live in South Africa,” Mr Moshe said.
“Too often, we focus on the negatives and forget the sacrifice and commitment these brave men and women make on a daily basis in order to protect our families and uphold the peace in our communities,” he said.
“We will have a special moment where delegates will receive a special blessing from the bishop of the Catholic Church in the diocese of Klerksdorp.”
