Joburg Parishes Walk In Aid of The Mother of Mercy Shrine

The sixth edition of the Friends of the Shrine Walk was held at the Regina Mundi Church in Soweto this past Saturday. The annual event is held as a fundraising drive for the Mother of Mercy Shrine, a project by the archdiocese of Johannesburg, which is currently under construction in Magaliesburg, north-west of Johannesburg.
The walk was hosted by the Soweto deanery of the Friends of the Shrine, an organisation founded in 2017 for fundraising activities of the Mother of Mercy Shrine project.
On Saturday, over 500 parishioners from across various parishes in Johannesburg descended on Regina Mundi Church to take part in the event. Besides the eight kilometres and five kilometres walks, attendants engaged in other activities including aerobics, face-painting and the selling of a tasty chicken fiesta.
Zanele Ngobese, chairperson of the Soweto committee of the Friends of the Shrine expressed her happiness on the day`s proceedings: “I`m happy that today has turned out to be an overwhelming success. The beautiful weather. Everyone is happy. And they are even more happy to have received a finisher`s medal with an emblem of Mother Mary. Indeed, she has interceded as she always does,” she said.
The Friends of the Shrine will be hosting the All White Party at Christ the King Cathedral in Johannesburg in October. Details will be released soon.
