Catholic Businessman Dan Marokane announced as New Eskom CEO

Eskom, South Africa`s power utility announced on Friday that Mr Dan Marokane would become its new chief executive officer. Mr Marokane worked at the power utility as group capital head between 2011- and 2015. He was until recently the acting chief executive officer of sugar milling company Tongat-Huellett. He is a highly experienced corporate executive who holds several university degrees from South African and UK universities.
A devout catholic, Mr Marokane grew up under the guardianship and guidance of the Stigmatine Fathers at his parish of St Xeno Church in Letlhabile township, west of Brits.
In September he attended the funeral of Fr Giuliano Melotto, one of the priests he grew up under in Verona in Italy. “Fr Giuliano meant so much to us. As children, he played a crucial role in defining who we later became in our adult lives. He mobilised resources for our education and ensured that we were sufficiently fed, clothed and at all times spiritually nourished,” he said at the priest`s funeral in Italy.

Part of his Italian trip included a stop-over in Rome where he attended an international meeting of the Focolare movement. His brother Fr Steve Marokane is a diocesan priest in the archdiocese of Pretoria, and is currently undertaking further studies in Brazil.
Speaking of the Stigmatine Fathers, Mr Marokane had this to say while in Rome: “Many of us would have perished into nothing without the guidance and care of the Church and the Stigmatine Fathers during the dark days of apartheid. Given our dire situation as black people and the adversity of the apartheid system, it was through God`s will that they were present in our lives.”
We wish Mr Marokane a successful tenure at Eskom.
