Letsika Bernard Chefa, Rest in Peace
By Bokang Tsoanamatsie – Pelo e Tlotlehang Parish, part of the Archdiocese of Maseru in Lesotho, bid farewell to one of its parishioners, Mr Letsika Bernard Chefa. Mr Chefa was recognised for being a devoted Christian, known for his love and care towards fellow Christians and his local community. He passed away on July 18, after experiencing difficulty in breathing while at work.
Mr Chefa was praised for exemplifying his Christian values through his actions. Speakers noted that he was a family man who was very protective of his family and deeply loved his wife. They mentioned that Mr. Chefa would often take his wife along to nearly every event.
His colleagues remarked that Mr. Chefa viewed his job as a divine calling, perceiving God in his work and in the people he served. They described him as an honest individual with strong job integrity, as well as an advocate for social justice in the workplace. One colleague, Mrs. Mashakhane Faku, stated that despite being a coworker who provided support on work-related issues, they were also fellow parishioners at Pelo e Tlotlehang. She highlighted that Mr. Chefa would personally attend his children’s sacramental ceremonies, often being the only man present among women.
Additionally, Mr. Chefa was involved in several societies within the district, including an association of transport owners who provided transportation for passengers from the Maseru border to their respective homes. They noted that Mr. Chefa was the founder of this association, aimed at reducing the crimes that individuals faced at the border gate during the night. One political party leader, Mr. Masiu, recounted an incident where he was robbed at the border gate, and Mr. Chefa came to his rescue.
Mr. Chefa was also acknowledged for serving as a bodyguard for various political leaders in the country. Despite not receiving any rewards from them once they attained power, he held no bitterness or hatred towards them.
His classmates from tertiary education commended Mr. Chefa for his efforts in advocating for students to receive bursaries from the National Manpower Development Secretariat.
Mr. Letsika Bernard Chefa was a citizen born in Quthing, raised by the Oblates of Mary Immaculate at their Novitiate Villa Maria located in the diocese of Qacha’s Nek. After finishing high school at Holy Cross, he pursued a degree in human resources. He passed away while serving as a sales manager at Metropolitan Lesotho and is survived by his mother, brother, wife, and two children, a son and a daughter.
Mr. Letsika Bernard Chefa will be remembered for his willingness to assist his neighbours.
May his soul, along with the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in eternal peace.
