Catholic Leader Dan Marokane Guides Eskom to Top Honour at Sunday Times Top 100 Business Awards
By Daluxolo Moloantoa – Eskom Group Chief Executive Dan Marokane has been named the Business Leader of the Year at the prestigious 2025 Sunday Times Top 100 Companies Awards, held in Johannesburg this week.
The accolade recognises Marokane’s outstanding leadership in steering Eskom through one of the most challenging periods in its history — marked by his determined efforts to restore stability, accountability, and public trust in the state-owned power utility.
Beyond his corporate achievements, Marokane’s story is deeply rooted in his Catholic faith. He hails from a family equally grounded in faith. His younger brother, Fr Stephen Marokane, serves as a Catholic priest in the Archdiocese of Pretoria. Dan is also a proud product of the highly esteemed Tsogo High School, a Catholic institution in Mmakau Village, northwest of Pretoria. The school has produced several notable South African figures, including veteran broadcasters Tim Modise and JJ Tabane, as well as businessman Patrice Motsepe, among many other distinguished alumni. Dan’s home parish is St Zeno Church, Letlhabile, in Brits.
Marokane’s recognition at this year’s Sunday Times Awards celebrates not only his professional excellence but also his steadfast commitment to ethical leadership, shaped by a lifelong foundation of Catholic values and service. Dan is pictured with Sheila Pires of the SACBC and Bishop Robert Mphiwe of Rustenburg.
Congratulations to Mr Dan Marokane, a leader of faith, integrity, and purpose! 🙏
