Christmas: It’s Not Just Another Day
By James Katende – Do We Celebrate Christmas Knowing It’s About Jesus Christ, or Is It Just Another Day?
Each year, lights go up, gifts are wrapped, and songs echo through malls and homes. But the question remains—do we truly celebrate Christmas knowing it’s about Jesus Christ, or has it become just another day? In the busyness of December, it’s easy to lose sight of the One who is the very reason for the season.
Christmas is not about tradition—it’s about transformation. It’s not centred around Santa Claus or sales—it’s centred around a Saviour. It’s not about what’s under the tree, but about the One who hung on the tree to redeem us. Jesus is the heart of Christmas. Without Him, it’s just another holiday. With Him, it becomes holy.
When the angel declared, “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord,” heaven announced hope to a broken world. That birth was no ordinary event—it split history, fulfilled prophecy, and offered salvation to all. When we remember this, Christmas becomes more than a calendar date—it becomes a celebration of God’s greatest gift.
But today, many treat Christmas as a moment, not a message. For some, it’s more about festivity than faith. The wrapping paper is remembered, but the Word made flesh is forgotten. And yet, for those who know Jesus, every candle lit and every carol sung is a reminder of Emmanuel—God with us.
Let this year be different. Let our hearts turn back to the manger, where hope was born. Let our homes echo not just with music, but with worship. Because Christmas is not just a day—it’s His day. And when Jesus is at the centre, every celebration becomes sacred.
