Nuncio Meets with Neocatechumenal Way
By Rachele Hochhausler – Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Henryk Mieczysław Jagodziński, received Dino and Roberta Furgione, who, along with Fr Lorenzo Ricci, have been the missionary team responsible for the Neocatechumenal Way in South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, and Eswatini, since 2009. The audience took place in a very cordial atmosphere.
During the discussions, Dino Furgione explained to the Nuncio some of the initiatives the Neocatechumenal Way carries out in service to the South African Bishops, as well as the care of families, with particular attention to young people, in fostering vocations to the consecrated life and forming Christian families.
For his part, the Nuncio reiterated his gratitude for the work that this itinerary of Christian initiation for young people and adults carries out in the local and universal Church. He also enthusiastically welcomed the proposal to visit the Redemptoris Mater Archdiocesan Missionary Seminary of Cape Town to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Way in Southern Africa with the missionary families, seminarians, priests, and the communities.
Dino and Roberta, along with Fr Lorenzo, then encouraged the Nuncio to continue facilitating diplomatic negotiations for an apostolic visit by the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, which could potentially be a turning point in the lives not only of Catholics but of many Christians living in South Africa. Finally, the missionary team renewed their obedience to God and to Mother Church and before receiving the Apostolic Blessing. The team donated an icon which is a copy of the artistic work of the Final Judgement in the apse of the church inside the Domus Galilea in the Holy Land.
