Christians must lead the way
Global events are moving too fast for us to fail in achieving Christian unity, let alone unity of some sort with the other main religions of the world today. Failure is too awful to contemplate, there is just no alternative. Failure is a possibility, based upon the last few hundred years of the history of world religions. Success is the will of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and our Father in heaven.
Who will hold the tiller if not the religious person of deep conviction and faith? The scientist? The politician? The banker!? No! We Christians must lead the way. The matter is imperative and urgent.
Listen to the heart cry of Jesus before his passion: “I pray not only for these, but for those also who through their words will believe in me. May they all be one, Father, may they be one in us, as you are in me and I am in you, so that the world may believe it was you who sent me. I have given them the glory you gave to me, that they may be one as we are in one. With me in them and you in me, may they be so completely one that the world will realise that it was you who sent me, and that I have loved them as much as you loved me” (John 17:20-23).
