There but for God’s grace go I
The column of Chris Moerdyk How it might have been for Jesus on his visit to hell warrants a response, perhaps by one of the priests who write for The Southern Cross. The latter part of Mr Moerdyks article is not only disturbing but erroneous too. He says: I am quite sure Christ would have seen a certain Mr Mugabe entering its fiery portals.
This is an error many make judging others we perceive to be more wicked than ourselves as deserving of hellfire. As Mr Moerdyks brother in Christ, I exhort him not to fall into the trap of wrongfully judging others. As one of the saints said: But for the Grace of God, there go I.
We have to hate the sin, not the sinner. I am no supporter of Robert Mugabe, but no one has the right to judge another person as Mr Moerdyk has done, jokingly or not. Thats for the Lord to do.
