1987: Films a force for good or evil
Los Angeles – A star-studded Hollywood crowd listened to Pope John Paul’s warning that the entertainment industry would be accountable to God and society if it allowed violence and pornography to spread. “Do not let money be your sole concern”, he further stated, “Communication products can be works of great beauty… or can appeal to and promote what is debased in people – dehumanised sex through pornography or through a casual attitude toward sex and human life.
1996: Bishop among 4 slain in Burundi ambush
Archbishop Joachim Ruhuna of Burundi, a member of the Tutsi minority, along with a Burundian Missionaries of Charity Sister and two unidentified people were murdered by Hutu rebels on September 9. The car they were travelling in, on their way to the central town of Gitega, was ambushed in Murongwe in an area described as a Hutu stronghold. More that 150,000 people have died in Burundi in the three years of civil war between Hutu rebels and the Tutsi-dominated army.
