Fr Vusumuzi Mazibuko Appointed Vicar Apostolic of Ingwavuma

Pope Francis has appointed Fr Vusumuzi Francis Mazibuko OMI as vicar apostolic of the Ingwavuma Vicariate. Previously, Fr Mazibuko served as parish priest of St Mary’s in Pietermaritzburg, Archdiocese of Durban. The position was most recently filled by Archbishop Mandla Siegfried Jwara.
Fr Mazibuko was born on May 17, 1965 in Leskop, Estcourt. He joined the Congregation of the Oblate Missionaries of Mary Immaculate and carried out the first part of his formation at St Joseph’s Theological Institute in Cedara (1990-1992), and the second part in Lesotho (1992-1995). He made his final vows on February 17, 1995 and was ordained a priest on April 27, 1996.
Fr Mazibuko served as formator at St Joseph’s Theological Institute (1996-1997), parish priest at St John’s in Estcourt (1997-1999), pastor and educator at St Joseph’s Theological Institute (1999-2002), obtained a Licentiate in Spirituality at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (2002-2004), served as Superior of St Joseph’s Theological Institute (2005-2011), as Provincial of the OMI Province in KwaZulu-Natal (2011-2018) and parish priest of St Mary’s in Pietermaritzburg.
