Holy Family College learner, Micah Edom in Yes Cup Tournament in Milan

Holy Family College Grade 8 learner, Micah Edom, started playing soccer at the tender age of 5 years old. He first played with Spiders Sporting Academy, under the guidance of Sheldon Roux, as a striker. He then went on to play for various other teams including Ashtown FC, and Warriors FC (a soccer team Micah’s mom, Genel Edom, created and successfully ran for one year), and thereafter was scouted by KZN Soccer Academy for whom he played soccer for approximately 3 years in various positions, including right-wing, right back and/or defender. Micah has also played soccer for his school soccer teams.
“Micah eventually signed up with Durban Lyons FC, a soccer team based on the Bluff, KZN, consisting of players from primarily the Wentworth, Sydenham, Newlands East, and Greenwood Park areas. Micah Edom went for soccer trials for Durban Lyons FC in January 2023 and after two days of trials, he was selected to participate in the Yes Cup Tournament in Milan, Italy from 4-10 April 2023. This was an opportunity of a lifetime as Micah, being just 14 years of age, played for their U16 Division. The Yes Cup tournament consisted of 18 countries from all over the world. Micah’s U16 team eventually made it to the semi-finals of the tournament where they finished 4th in their division, bringing home the Yes Cup Trophy. His Club participated in the U10, U12, U14 and U16 Divisions” said Mom, Genel Edom.
This tournament is considered an auspicious moment, not only for our various communities but for the players who have been exposed to the International soccer scene.
Mrs Ursula Collings, the Principal of Holy Family College said, “We are immensely proud of Micah and his soccer achievements. Micah is a dedicated and committed learner of Holy Family College both on the Sports field and in his academics. He has good team morale and is always willing to teach his soccer skills to his peers. Together we celebrate with Micah and the Durban Lyons FC. Congratulations to the Edom family, as it takes a village to raise a child. We support and encourage Micah to continue to strive for excellence in all aspects of his life”.
