Paschal Meal at Holy Family College

A Paschal meal was held for the staff of Holy Family College in Durban in the Hall Foyer of the school. Mr Michael Shedrick, officiated as Master of Ceremonies, Chaplain, Father Callistus Khathali OMI acted as the Father of the house, and Ms Dot Mac Minn as Mother.
A strong sense of community prevailed. The teachers sang traditional Jewish songs, distributed handmade kippors, participated in the readings, helped set the table, and prepared and plated the food.
“It is part of the Christian ethos to partake of Lamb and to tie in the Last Supper with our rich Jewish foundations and traditions. To partake in the symbolism of bitter herbs, karoset, eggs and matzoh helps us to understand salvation history and what it means to be gifted by God as His people.
This year the boiled eggs were donated by a member of the staff and two boxes of Easter eggs were given to us to enjoy after the meal to celebrate the resurrected Christ. A memory verse game was played and gifts of Easter eggs were awarded to Sr Nondumiso and Miss Nelson’s classes for their generous contribution towards our Lent boxes. Our loyal maintenance staff, Goodman and Lettie, stayed afterward to wash dishes and to help us clear up. This is community: to encourage unity, break bread, to spend time together and all in the Holy name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” – Mrs B. Stephenson – Religious Education
