Rosie Book Week at St Teresa’s School

Uyanda Sibisi and Scarlett Rymer (Grade 3) as Harry Potter and Hedwig
St Teresa’s Junior Primary School in Craighall Park held their Rosie Book Week to celebrate all things books. The week started with our Book Character Dress-up Day which saw the campus filled with various book characters from the many books learners love to read. Learners dressed up as Little Miss, Dr Seuss, Harry Potter as well as princesses, fairies, witches and wizards among many others.

This was followed by the PTA ‘Travel by Book’ Readathon prize-giving. The readathon took place over the April holidays and generously sponsored by Jonathan Ball Publishers, Jacana Media, Penguin Random House, Pan Macmillan, Reader’s Warehouse and Exclusive Books. Winners and runners-up in each grade who read the most books received prizes. Congratulations to Hannah Skeen in Grade 2 who read a total of 90 books and was the overall winner in Junior Primary.

Author Riaan Manser with Zoey-Rae Saffy (Grade 1)
Thanks to Penguin Random House the school were also very fortunate to have four local authors visit and read their amazing books to learners. Nancy Gaylard read her book ‘Ayen’s First Day’ and taught some sign language and Bianca Flanders’ shared how ‘Pumpkin Finds Her Kindness’. For Africa Day, learners added a touch of Africa to their school uniform and Roslynne Toerien read her books ‘Under The Boabab Tree’ and ‘The Rumbling Rhino’ and spoke about nature conservation and saving the rhino. The week ended with Riaan Manser telling learners about his ‘First African Adventure’ around the African continent.
St Teresa’s School thanks all who made it possible!
