Ethiopian Catholic group launches Pastoral Movement in Mafikeng

The Ethiopian Catholic group launched a Pastoral Support initiative at St Anthony’s Church in Mafikeng in the Diocese of Kimberley at Mass celebrated by Ethiopian Apostle of Jesus Missionary Priest Fr Mengistu A Ledo AJ. The day’s events also included a celebration for Fr Ledo’s 52nd birthday.
A pastoral care and welcoming speech was made by Parish Priest Fr Kumakech Patrick AJ.
The launch was memorable for three reasons:
Firstly, it was the group’s first Mass Celebration in their native Language Amharic by Fr Mengistu A Ledo AJ at St Anthony’s parish with the Parish Priest’s Confirmation to continue to serve his Parishioners.

Secondly Fr Mengistu’s 52nd Birthday celebration for the First time with his Ethiopian brothers and sisters.
Thirdly, we succeeded in having our group’s 3 leaders elected as one of the Pastoral activities in the Mafikeng area, which was accompanied by Fr Patrick’s commissioning, prayer and blessings for the leaders, led by Community National Coordinator Evangelist Hailu.
The leaders elected will join the Community National Leadership Executive Leaders Election that will be held in the Archdiocese of Johannesburg.
The Community gatherings are a time to show our catholic values, keep up our Catholic Faith in a foreign land and to integrate with the local community where ever we live.
