Christ The King Church Makes Human Rosary On Belated World Mission Sunday
The Christ the King Church in Queenswood, Pretoria held a belated World Mission Sunday. The occasion was themed as “Hearts on Fire. Feet on the Move”.
The occasion was organised by the Christ the King Church Missionary Group. The group’s members wore different coloured t-shirts symbolic of the beauty of various parts of the world and being a missionary church.
Green represented the beauty of the forests in Africa. Blue represented the continents of Australia & Oceania surrounded by water. White represented the garments of the pope in Europe. Red represented the blood of the martyrs in the Americas. Yellow represented the young Christians in Asia.
In his homily, parish priest Fr Daniel Kivuwa, a Consolata Missionary priest, made reference to the victory by the South Africans in the Rugby World Cup. “The team has won by only one point in their matches leading up to the final last night. Even the final match itself was won by one point. The rosary has many points being its beads. So, when we combine those beads in prayer to God and Our Lady, we in return receive a potent grace and immeasurable power unleashed onto us by God and our merciful Mother,” he said.
During the Mass service, various items such as a bouquet of national flags were presented as part of the offertory. After the service, Fr Kivuwa led the congregation onto the adjacent Loreto Convent School sports ground for a human rosary prayer session.
Members of the missionary group together with other congregants led the prayers. Prayers were said in various local languages and from other parts of the world.
A photo session was held after the rosary prayers with Fr Kivuwa and the parishioners.
“Today was a special day. It brought us parishioners of the Christ the King Church closer to Our Lady. We thanked her for looking over us, and indeed for our victory as a nation yesterday,” parishioner Nomsa Mogale told The Southern Cross.
“Fr Daniel Kivuwa’s leadership at our church has brought a missionary ethos into our parish. He has encouraged us to be intentional but also patient in becoming a truly missionary church.
“Today’s event was a testament to Jesus sending all of us out into the world to become missionaries. Moreover, the fact that it happened on the morning after the victory for the Springboks is also a lesson to us that indeed life requires us to dig deep. To put our best foot forward and to sweat for what we desire. At the end of it all, the thrill and the celebration of having achieved what we wanted makes the whole process worthwhile,” Sheila Houghton, the coordinator of the Christ the King Missionary Group said.
After the rosary prayer, a bring-and-share luncheon was enjoyed by the parishioners at the church.
