Do We Follow the Word of God in our Lives?
By James Katende – Practising the word of God is the natural outcome of our relationship with Him. It is not enough to merely hear or read His Word; we are called to live it out daily.
The word of God serves as a lamp to guide our path and a foundation for how we relate to others and navigate life’s challenges. When we truly integrate His teachings into our lives, we begin to see the fruits of His Spirit manifest in our actions, attitudes, and choices.
Furthermore, our practice of the word of God influences how we relate to our neighbours. Are we good with our neighbours according to the word of God? The Bible teaches us to love our neighbours as ourselves, offering kindness, forgiveness, and support. This is not limited to those who are close to us but extends to everyone, even those who may not share our faith. Practising God’s Word helps us to live in harmony with others, showing them the love of Christ through our actions. It is through this love and kindness that we fulfil the commandment of loving one another and bringing glory to God. The way we treat others is a reflection of our obedience to God’s Word, and in doing so, we fulfil our purpose as His followers.
Practising and doing according to the Bible is at the core of what it means to live as a follower of Christ. It is not enough to simply read or study the Scriptures; we are called to put them into action. The Bible provides us with clear guidance on how to live righteous and meaningful lives, but it requires our intentional effort to apply these teachings in our everyday actions. To practice the Bible is to embody the principles it teaches and to make them a living part of who we are.
Living according to the Bible means making decisions based on God’s Word, reflecting His love and truth in every aspect of life. It’s about choosing to forgive when wronged, showing compassion to the suffering, and living with integrity in all situations. Jesus said that if we love Him, we will keep His commandments (John 14:15). This love for God is expressed not just in words but in deeds, as we align our behaviour with His will.
The Bible also teaches us about the importance of humility, patience, and self-control. It instructs us on how to treat others with respect, love, and kindness, reflecting the heart of God. Practising the Word means looking beyond our own desires and seeking the good of others, living out the truth that “love thy neighbour as thyself” (Mark 12:31).
Moreover, it’s essential to remember that practising the Bible is not about perfection; it is about progress and the willingness to keep striving to live according to God’s standards. The Bible teaches that when we fall short, we have the grace of God to help us and the opportunity to repent and grow. It’s through this ongoing practice and effort that we build our character, deepen our faith, and fulfil the purpose God has for us.
Ultimately, practising and doing according to the Bible is a reflection of a heart transformed by the gospel. It is through living out the Word that we become witnesses to the world of God’s goodness, mercy, and love.
