Archbishop George Daniel, 50 Years an Archbishop
Archbishop-elect George Francis Daniel on the day of his consecration at Christian Brothers College (CBC) Mount Edmund in Pretoria, on August 3, 1975.
Just after he was confirmed as the new Archbishop of Pretoria, the large crowd of Catholics from his former parishes in Tembisa erupted in joyous cries of “Pula! Khotso! Nala!” (Rain!, Peace!, Harvest!).
Today, more than sixty parish foundation stones across the Archdiocese of Pretoria carry his name, a lasting witness to his vision and leadership. The Southern Cross September issue features Archbishop George Daniel, who celebrates his 50th year as archbishop with cover photo by Daluxolo Moloantoa.
