Presenting Catholic Heritage and Legacy to the Apostolic Nuncio
Southern Cross features writer Daluxolo Moloantoa recently had the honour of presenting the Vatican’s representative in South Africa, the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Henryk Mieczysław Jagodziński, with two books he has been involved in writing and editing.
The first publication, From Here We Shall Never Move by Cecilia Moloantoa, tells the story of the Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Mission in Mmakau, Pretoria’s oldest Black Catholic parish. The book traces how the local community, guided by faith and determination, built and sustained the church over generations, preserving its heritage and identity.
The second book, Lerole to Legacy, is a biography of Dr Miranda Seleke, a Catholic medical doctor whose vocation reflects faith and service. Highlights include her service as a SANDF medical envoy at the state funeral of former President Nelson Mandela in 2013 and her presence on a South African Catholic pilgrimage in the Holy Land during the 7 October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel.
At the meeting, Archbishop Jagodziński expressed his appreciation for the works, noting, “These books are not only a record of history but a testimony of faith alive in the hearts of the people. Preserving such stories strengthens the Church and inspires future generations.”
Reflecting on the moment, Daluxolo Moloantoa said, “Presenting these books to His Excellency was deeply moving. It felt like a bridge connecting our local Catholic heritage to the universal Church.”
Dr Miranda Seleke added, “It is humbling to see my life story shared in a way that highlights vocation, service, and faith. I hope it inspires others to live their own faith courageously.”
The presentation underscored the importance of documenting Catholic history and celebrating the lives of lay faithful whose witness enriches the Church locally and globally.
