By Sr Henry Keane OP – Members of the Denis Hurley Association, several friends, and members of the African desk of Catholic international development charity in England and Wales, CAFOD, met at the Denis Hurley House in Kilburn, London, to celebrate the life and death of our much-admired and loved Paddy Kearney.
It was appropriate that the gathering meet at the home of the Oblate Fathers in Kilburn. Their ongoing “Partners in Mission” programme continues to inspire young adults, in particular, to focus their time and energy, at home and abroad, on the needs of the poor and marginalised in the context of justice and peace.
Archbishop Hurley and his protégé and co-worker Paddy would undoubtedly have identified with that mission.
Fr Lorcan O’Reilly OMI, who celebrated the Mass, invited all present to share their thoughts and memories of Paddy, which they did enthusiastically.
The celebration continued afterwards with glasses raised to honour Paddy and Archbishop Hurley.
