South Africa’s first Chapel of Eucharistic Adoration at Christ the King parish in Wentworth, Durban, turned 25 years old on the Feast of St Joseph.
Parishioner Moira Gilmore: “We thank St Joseph that we were able to start Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration in 1998 on his Feast Day on March 19. We were the first Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel in South Africa. The accompanying photo shows our then parish priest Fr Allan Moss OMI, who gave us permission to start Perpetual Adoration.” Ms Gilmore invited Fr Marti Lucia to visit the parish to preach and give instructions on how to go about starting Perpetual Adoration.

The parish reports that many Graces have been obtained through their Eucharistic Adoration Prayers. At the time of starting, there were many gangs in Wentworth where the parish is situated. After some time the gangs seemed to fizzle out.
Unfortunately due to Covid19 and parishioners relocating etc, the Chapel is no longer Perpetual but with the help of their new organiser Dion Oliver, the parish hopes to start Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration again.
The Chapel Building was constructed a few years after Fr Allan Moss was transferred and Fr Michael Foley OMI became parish priest. Fr Foley had the building designed and built. The Chapel was Blessed and opened by Cardinal Wilfred Napier OFM.
