Redemptoris Mater Seminarians instituted as Acolytes, candidacy in Archdiocese of Cape Town
On the Feast of St Joseph, three seminarians were instituted as acolytes and another admitted to candidacy for Holy Orders in the Archdiocese of Cape Town.
Cardinal Stephen Brislin presided over the Eucharistic celebration at Christ the King parish in Pinelands, filled with many people who accompanied these young men with prayer and support. These rites represent an occasion for seminarians to express in front of the Church their intention to continue their formation towards priesthood, and gradually introduce them into the ministries they will take up as servants of the Word of God and of the Eucharist.
The four seminarians belong to the Redemptoris Mater Archdiocesan Missionary Seminary of Cape Town, an international seminary opened by Archbishop Brislin in 2012 to form vocations from the charism of the Neocatechumenal Way to become diocesan priests with a missionary impulse.
As the Cardinal humorously noted in his homily, these seminarians represent a true “league of nations”: Roberto Caceres, who was admitted to candidacy, is from Paraguay, while the three newly instituted acolytes are Paul Moore from Scotland, Daniel Fathallah from Egypt and Charles Montesclaros from the Philippines. – By Pietro Poggiali
