Catholic Women’s Retreat at Maria Mabasotho
By Bokang Tsoanamatsie – The Maria Mabasotho Oblate Pastoral Centre organises an annual retreat in February for all Catholic women, providing them with an opportunity to celebrate Valentine’s Day independently and engage in discussions about issues relevant to their lives.
Fr Clement Tampane OMI, the administrator of Maria Mabasotho, noted that women often find themselves divided due to their affiliations with different sodalities within the church. He emphasised that despite these differences, they face similar challenges within their families and communities that require collective action. Unfortunately, the divisions stemming from their sodality affiliations prevent them from uniting to offer support, advice, and solace to one another. “In our societies, we confront the issue of gender-based violence, with women and children being the primary victims,” Fr Tampane OMI remarked.
Fr Emmanuel Mokhofu OMI encouraged the women to cultivate self-love and self-awareness. Fr Charles Matsoso OMI highlighted the importance of recognising their worth within their families and communities, urging them not to let others diminish their spirits.
Sr Elizabeth Khang asserted the transformative power of women, stating that they possess the ability to elevate Maria Mabasotho to a better parish. Fr Felix Molumeli OMI reminded them of their influence, as they nurture children who will grow to become future spouses.
The retreat, attended by approximately 1000 Catholic women, concluded with a Holy Mass celebrated by Fr Clement Tampane OMI, concelebrated by Fr Emmanuel Lebese OMI.
