While most Catholics know the season of Advent is roughly four weeks before Christmas, they might not know it has two parts.
Among Christians there is a potent call to “Put Christ Back Into Christmas”, drawing from a slogan that is already several decades old. The obvious implication of it is that, to cite the time-honoured phrase, “Christ is the reason for the season”, and therefore should not be excluded.

During the four weeks of Advent, the worldwide Church is not idle – here are some of the feasts that are celebrated. It celebrates plenty of major feasts with lots of customs, traditions and even special foods during the month of December.
During the weeks before Christmas, Catholic churches stand out for what they are missing. Unlike shops, malls, public buildings and homes that start gearing up for Christmas at least by November, churches appear almost stark save for Advent wreaths and maybe some greenery or white lights.
Without hope our path leads to death. But perhaps our hope like canned and looped holiday music has lost some of its lustre. After 20 years, 40 years and 60 years this same call to hope may have us either yawning or gritting our teeth.
