Third Day – Christmas Offerings

CD REVIEW

Traditional Christmas carols don’t readily invite a rock treatment. Christian rock giants Third Day have done just that — and pulled it off admirably. This is not a commercial effort (no Santa Clauses checking lists twice, red-nosed reindeers or chestnuts roasting on open fires here); the carols are songs of praise performed with unsentimental reverence, as they should be.

Mixing live and studio recordings, the interpretations almost invariably hit the right spot. Some carols lend themselves to guitar-driven rock (Do You Hear What I Hear), others require the folk-rock treatment Third Day do so well (for example their appealing take on Silent Night). This set is sure to become a favourite Christmas album for many.

Listen to: Silent Night; Jesus, Light Of The World; What Child Is This; O Come All Ye Faithful; Do You Hear What I Hear; Born In Bethlehem
