Pro-suicide peer plans to change English laws – 1980

A Conservative peer, who for the time being has requested to remain anonymous, is to ask the British parliament, during its next session, to repeal the section of the 1961 Suicide Act which makes it an offence to aid, abet or procure the suicide of another person. The move was sponsored by the former Voluntary Euthanasia Society, now operating as the Society for the Right to die with Dignity, abbreviated to EXIT, and the above act inhibits the Society’s proposal to publish a booklet detailing several easy ways of committing suicide, a proposal which was met with large amounts of unfavourable publicity when it became known.

Eight get life for priest’s murder – 1987

Kidapawan, Philippines – the eight men convicted of the April 11, 1985, murder of Fr. Tullio Favali, have been sentenced to life in prison. Three of the eight is said to be brothers of the Manero family, a notoriously fearsome family in the region. The trial has lasted nearly two years due to constant interruptions, including the overthrow of President Ferdinand Marcos in February 1986.
