Sacrament of Marriage Celebration of Ethiopian and Eritrean Catholic Community Members
By Hailu Adalo – Couple Mr Fanose Fikire and Mrs Hanna Sibamo, from the same Vicariate of Hosanna in Ethiopia, united as one body in Sacramental Marriage after a long period of Marriage Preparation during the Lenten Season, given by Community Coordinator Acolyte Hailu Adalo in their native Languages Amharic and Hadiyagn.
The couple had their Civil Marriage at the Ethiopian Embassy on 2 April 2024 followed by the Sacrament of Marriage Celebration, conducted by Community Chaplain Fr Yoseph Yakob and final blessings by Parish Priest Fr Athanasius Chigubu CSsR, on 4 April 2024 at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Diocese of Rustenburg.
Community coordinator Acolyte Hailu addressed the couple through a Bible Reflection in their native language Amharic on the topic of Faithful, Family Marriage life, concluding with the lighting of the Marriage Life Symbolic Candle.
Mathew 5:16 says “Let your Light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven”.
The Ethiopian Catholic Choir attended the marriage ceremony and gave spiritual songs and musical ministry in their home Language.
In addition, their traditional Wedding Ceremony was held on 13 October 2024 in North West Rustenburg Civic Centre City Hall and their family, friends and Catholic group members came from various parts of South Africa bearing gifts and enjoyed Ethiopian traditional Food.
I humbly request all readers to remember our married couples in your prayers! I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to all parish priests and bishops for their pastoral care of the Migrants Catholic Community. Wishing all religious leaders and pastoral ministers a wonderful Mission Month, and inviting everyone to the House of the Lord!
By Ethiopian and Eritrean Catholic Community national Coordinator Evangelist Hailu Adalo, from the Diocese of Rustenburg.
