Archdiocese of Maseru Ushers in the “Year of Hope”

Opening of the Holy Year, Archdiocese of Maseru
The Archdiocese of Maseru joyfully commenced the “Year of Hope” on February 9th at St Anne of Auray outstation, St Lawrence in Mantsonyane. Archbishop Tlali Gerard Lerotholi, OMI, presided over the historic event, marking a significant milestone for the local Church.
During the Mass, Sr Agnes Mankoe of the Holy Names Sisters emphasised the importance of hope in the face of contemporary challenges, including global conflicts, climate change, and the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Echoing this sentiment, Sr Mary Matobo of the Congregation of the Good Shepherd highlighted the role of religious congregations in bringing hope to the world.
In his homily, Archbishop Lerotholi, renowned for his poetic words, underscored the significance of baptism as a call to be beacons of hope for others. He emphasised that “In baptism, we commit to follow Jesus Christ and renounce Satan, and as a result, we should illuminate hope to our brothers and sisters.” He further illustrated this point by comparing the act of sowing seeds in hope of a harvest to the unwavering hope that Christians should possess.
The event culminated with the renewal of vows by priests and religious sisters, and the official adoption of the motto: “Year of Hope, Together in Hope.” This momentous occasion signifies a renewed commitment to fostering hope and unity within the Archdiocese of Maseru as they embark on this special year of grace.
