Mr Elias Herego and Ms Hanna Argaw Celebrate the Sacrament of Marriage
By Hailu Adalu – Mr Elias Herego and Ms Hanna Argaw recently celebrated the Sacrament of Marriage. The couple, hailing from the same Vicariate of Hosanna in Ethiopia, specifically St Theresa Parish Wassera, arrived with all necessary Sacramental Certificates for their marriage preparation. Their marriage instruction was conducted by Rev. Fr. Willem S. Basson, the Administrator of St. Augustine Co-Cathedral, while the preparation was facilitated by Community Coordinator Evangelist Hailu Adalo, all in their native language, Amharic. Throughout their preparation classes, they were encouraged to leave their parents and commit to one another as husband and wife, embodying the example of Christ and the Church as outlined in Ephesians 5:21-33. It is essential for new couples to understand the importance of personal preparation during single life prior to entering the marriage bond, as well as financial readiness, social life considerations, and spiritual guidance to uphold their Sacramental marriage vows.
The marriage ceremony, which took place on February 20, 2025, at St. Augustine Co-Cathedral in the Diocese of Upington, was officiated by Ethiopian Missionary Priest Fr. Mathews Ledo AJ, who conducted the service in their native language. Rev. Fr. Willem Basson also provided encouragement to the newlyweds, emphasising the importance of mutual respect, assistance, gratitude, and forgiveness in their relationship. The celebration was attended by numerous members of the Ethiopian community from the surrounding area, including Rev. Fr. Romano and three Religious Sisters, who all came together to enjoy traditional Ethiopian food and drink, marking a joyous occasion for the couple and their families.
