Are We Using God’s Gifts to the Best of Our Ability?
By James Katende – Each person on this earth is born with gifts, divine endowments from our Creator, placed deep within us before we even took our first breath. Some are gifted in speaking, others in leadership, teaching, giving, mercy, healing, discernment, or creating.
These are not talents we pick for ourselves—they are sacred tools given by God to fulfil our purpose on earth. But as we live through distractions, busyness, doubt, and comparison, we must pause and ask ourselves: Are we really using those gifts to the best of our abilities? Are we nurturing what God entrusted to us, or are we burying it beneath fear and excuses? Our gifts are not decorations; they are assignments. And every day we delay in using them for His glory is a day the world is robbed of the light we carry. God doesn’t just give gifts—He expects a return. What are we doing with what He placed in our hands?
1. Prayer Point: Lord, awaken every gift You have placed inside of me.
2 Timothy 1:6 – “Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you…”
Gifts must be stirred up; they do not activate on their own. Ask the Holy Spirit to awaken everything that has been lying dormant within you, and be intentional in developing it.
2. Prayer Point: Father, remove every fear that keeps me from using my gifts.
Romans 11:29 – “For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.”
Your gifts are permanent, regardless of your past. God has not changed His mind. Fear is a liar. Boldly step into what God has already approved in you.
3. Prayer Point: Lord, teach me how to serve others through my gifts.
1 Peter 4:10 – “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others…”
Our gifts are not for personal glory but for service. Real impact happens when we give our gifts away in love, humility, and obedience.
4. Prayer Point: God, align my gift with divine opportunities to glorify You.
Matthew 5:16 – “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Shine with purpose. Your gift is a light meant to be seen. Let God use your excellence to point the world back to Him.
The danger of unused potential is real. Many people live entire lifetimes never tapping into even a fraction of what God planted in them. Some gifts are wasted out of fear—fear of failure, fear of judgment, or fear of not being enough. Others are buried beneath procrastination, laziness, or false humility. But God is not glorified in our hiding. He is glorified when we step out, even in weakness, and allow Him to show His strength through our obedience. The gifts we carry are not random. They are intentional, necessary, and purposed for a specific time. You were born for this generation because what you carry is needed *now*.
The gift in you is an answer to someone’s problem, a solution to someone’s crisis, a message someone needs to hear. To ignore it is to delay healing, hope, or help for others. Imagine standing before God one day and realising you buried what Heaven gave you. The call today is to rise up, sharpen your gift, walk in it boldly, and trust that God will use it beyond what you ever imagined.
God did not give us gifts so they could be admired from a distance or locked away in fear. He gave them so we could multiply them, use them, and change the world with them. We will give an account for what we did with what He entrusted to us. The question is not whether we have a gift—it’s whether we are using it fully. It’s time to break the silence, break the delay, and break free from every lie that tells us we’re not ready.
God placed greatness inside of you. Use it. Speak it. Build with it. Heal with it. Lead with it. Write, serve, sing, create, teach, give, and prophesy with it. The world is waiting, and Heaven is watching. Stir up the gift. Use it. Maximise it. Multiply it — for His glory and His purpose.
