Doing What God Requires of Us
By James Katende – Doing what God requires of us is an expression of our obedience, trust, and love for Him.
Throughout Scripture, God makes clear that He desires our hearts, our service, and our faithfulness. His commands are not meant to restrict us but to guide us toward the abundant life He has planned for us.
The most fundamental requirement that God asks of us is to love Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbours as ourselves. These two commandments encompass the essence of what God requires from His people: devotion to Him and love for others.
But doing what God requires goes beyond mere adherence to commandments; it is about living out His will in every area of life. This involves acting justly, showing mercy, and walking humbly with God, as Micah 6:8 says. It means living a life of integrity, serving others selflessly, forgiving those who wrong us, and standing for truth and righteousness.
God also requires us to trust Him, even when we don’t understand His plans or when His ways seem difficult. Faith is integral to doing God’s will, as it is by faith that we obey, knowing that He is always with us, guiding and equipping us for His work. In the end, doing what God requires of us means living in relationship with Him, seeking His guidance in all things, and surrendering our lives to His purpose.
