Text and photos by Mark Kisogloo – The Maronite parish of Our Lady of Lebanon in Mulbarton, Johannesburg, marked the 25th anniversary of its church and parish inauguration with a special gala dinner fundraiser.
This year, the parish opted for a formal dinner instead of its usual family fun festival.
Distinguished guests included Cardinal Stephen Brislin of Johannesburg, Mgr Dario Pavisa of the apostolic nunciature to South Africa, and Lebanese Ambassador to South Africa Mr Kabalan Frangieh.
The evening commenced with Mass celebrated by Fr Jean Yammine, superior of the Maronite Church in South Africa. Following Mass, dinner was served in the high school’s hall, accompanied by lively entertainment. The entertainment featured belly dancers, traditional Lebanese dabke dancers, and popular Lebanese songs performed by renowned entertainer Christine Mansour.
The event concluded with prize draws and a highlight auction for a diamond ring valued at R76,000.
