By Fatima Goncalo – Mater Dolorosa Parish in Kensington was filled with prayer, reflection, and profound spiritual renewal as parishioners gathered to celebrate the Feast of Divine Mercy, marked by inspiring teachings, deep devotion, and a visible sense of God’s mercy.
The weekend commenced on Saturday with a moving and enlightening talk presented by Sister Jakuba and Sister Damiana, who focused on the Divine Mercy message and the life and revelations of St Faustina Kowalska, the apostle of Divine Mercy. The sisters guided the faithful through the heart of the Divine Mercy devotion, emphasising Trust in Jesus, repentance, and the boundless mercy of God for all who seek Him.
Following the talk, the faithful participated in the Veneration of the Relics of St Faustina and Blessed Michael Sapoka, a deeply reverent moment that drew many forward in quiet prayer. The faithful were given the opportunity to touch and pray at the relics, entrusting personal intentions and petitions with great devotion. As a remembrance of the occasion, attendees received prayer cards of St Faustina and Blessed Spanoko, as well as Divine Mercy images, strengthening their connection to the message long after the weekend’s events.
Sunday’s celebrations continued the spiritual journey with a Solemn procession, during which the congregation prayed the Divine Mercy Chaplet, lifting their voices in unison as they moved in prayerful reflection. The day also included opportunities for Confession, allowing many to experience the sacrament of reconciliation in the spirit of Divine Mercy.
The weekend reached its peak during Holy Mass, presided over by Archbishop Emeritus Buti Tlhagale, together with Fr Joe Pich. The liturgy was marked by reverence, joy, and a strong communal spirit. In his homily, the message of mercy resonated deeply, reminding the faithful that God’s mercy is not limited by human weakness but is freely given to all who TRUST IN JESUS
By the end of the celebrations, one sentiment was shared by all present — the Mercy of God was truly felt. From the teachings and prayers to the sacraments and fellowship, Divine Mercy Weekend at Mater Dolorosa Parish left hearts renewed, strengthened in faith, and immersed in the love of a merciful God.
Mater Dolorosa Parish’s Divine Mercy Weekend stands as a powerful reminder that mercy remains in all our hearts, calling all to trust, forgive, and hope.
